What is the Tabitha Project?
Grace, mercy and peace be with you all.
I'd like to formally introduce you to "The Tabitha Project". This mission came into being from a Bible Study group "Men in Mission". We began taking on tasks for our community members who were in need - from mowing yards to cleaning, painting and making repairs to homes.
Several years ago our church was blessed with a new member, Lynn Quackenbush. Lynn's life paralleled the story of Tabitha in Acts 9:36-43. This Scripture is what "The Tabitha Project" is all about, helping ALL of God's creation. Lynn came from a poor background but was blessed richly with her spirit of giving and helping others. Lynn would welcome the homeless and anyone in need throughout our community by giving hugs, a listening ear to their problems and making sure they had enough to eat. She came to our "Men in Mission" group asking for help with much needed home repairs. Upon arrival at Lynn's home I walked into her garage and noticed her hot water heater was missing. I asked her about it and she confided that she couldn't afford one. I asked her "How do you take a shower when it's winter and cold out?" Her reply, "Screaming like a Sergeant!"
The following Monday our Men in Mission Group purchased and installed a new water heater and completed all home repairs. Lynn has since passed away and now resides in Heaven, but that was the day "The Tabitha Project" was born.
We are committed to rejuvenating "The Tabitha Project" by seeking funding from grants and our community that will enable us to move into depressed neighborhoods and repair the housing needs of people.
Jesus has forever linked leadership with servanthood (Matthew 20:25-28), I humbly and prayerfully ask you, our leaders and fellow members of this great community, to find it in your hearts to partner with us and help grow this Ministry. I also ask that if you are aware of any memebers of your congregation who are in need of our services, please have them contact me. A contribution of any amount is welcomed for the need is great and the resources are few.
Our walk with Lynn inspired us along with the leading of God’s Holy Spirit to create “The Tabitha Project.” The name “Tabitha” comes from the scripture Acts 9:36-43 which tells of a woman named Tabitha that gave of her time and talents to people in need. She provided them with clothing she made and was well loved for her devotion to giving whole heartedly.
Respectfully, Your brother in Christ,
Michael J. Tagarelli
Our goal is to follow in Tabitha’s footsteps and provide support to all of our community whether it is helping an elderly neighbor, a single parent or a struggling college student. We want to spread God’s love with open arms.
Now in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was devoted to good works and acts of charity. At that time she became ill and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in a room upstairs. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, who heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him with the request, “Please come to us without delay.” So Peter got up and went with them; and when he arrived, they took him to the room upstairs. All the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing tunics and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was with them. Peter put all of them outside, and then he knelt down and prayed. He turned to the body and said, “Tabitha, get up.” Then she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he showed her to be alive. This became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
